What should a receipt include?
A receipt is proof of payment for your customer and a record for your books. Include the following.
- Your business name and contact details
- The customer’s name
- A unique receipt number
- The date the payment was received
- A description of each item or service paid for
- Quantity and rate for each item, and the total paid
- Tax, if it applies, shown per item
- The payment method (card, cash, bank transfer)
- The invoice number it relates to, if there was one
