How to make an Irish VAT invoice in under a minute

Fill in the form, watch the live preview, and download or save. Here is the full walkthrough.

  1. 01Add your business name, address and VAT number (the IE-prefixed number Revenue issued you), then the customer’s name, address and, for a business customer, their VAT number.
  2. 02Add each supply as a line item with a description, quantity and unit price excluding VAT. The subtotal and VAT recalculate live.
  3. 03VAT is pre-set to 23%. Change the rate to 13.5% or 9% for reduced-rate supplies, 0% for zero-rated ones, and untick taxable on exempt lines.
  4. 04Set a sequential invoice number, the date of issue and, if different, the date of supply in the notes. Upload your logo; the currency is already EUR.
  5. 05For a business customer in another EU country, set the rate to 0% and write "Reverse charge" in the notes. Add your payment terms and IBAN, then click Download free PDF.

The notes start with "VAT charged at the standard rate. Payment due within 30 days of the invoice date." Edit that line if you used a reduced rate or the reverse charge. The PDF is a document you give your customer; nothing is filed with or sent to any tax authority, and registering for the tax, charging the right rate and reporting it remain your responsibility.

What must an Irish VAT invoice include?

Revenue specifies what a VAT invoice must show, and an accountable customer needs a valid one to deduct the VAT. Include the following.

  • The date of issue, and the date of supply if it differs
  • A sequential number that uniquely identifies the invoice
  • Your full name, address and VAT registration number
  • The customer’s full name and address
  • For an intra-Community supply, the customer’s VAT number and the reverse charge (or the statement that it is an intra-Community supply)
  • The quantity and nature of the goods, or the extent and nature of the services
  • The unit price exclusive of VAT, and any discounts not included in it
  • The amount payable at each VAT rate, and the rate applied
  • The VAT payable, in euro
  • The total including VAT

Taxes, VAT, GST, and multiple currencies

You can mark each line item taxable or not and set the rate, so a single invoice can mix taxed and untaxed items. This per-item control is something many simple tools cannot do, where one document is limited to one tax rate.

Documents render in 12 currencies with locale-correct formatting: USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, INR, PKR, MXN, NZD, ZAR, and SGD. That covers VAT in the EU and UK, GST in India, Australia and Canada, and US sales tax. Need detailed tax handling across your whole workflow? See the tax feature.

Frequently asked questions

What are Revenue’s VAT invoice requirements?

A VAT invoice must show the date of issue, a sequential number, your name, address and VAT number, the customer’s name and address, the quantity and nature of what was supplied, the date of supply if different from the invoice date, the unit price excluding VAT, any discount, the amount payable at each rate together with the rate, the VAT amount in euro, and the total. For a supply to a VAT-registered customer in another EU state, add their VAT number and the words "Reverse charge" or "Intra-Community supply" as appropriate. Invoices must be issued by the 15th day of the month following the supply.

What are the VAT rates in Ireland?

The standard rate is 23%, which this tool starts with. The reduced rate of 13.5% covers things like construction services, fuel and short-term car hire; the second reduced rate of 9% applies to newspapers, e-books, sports facilities and, from 1 July 2026, food and catering services and hairdressing again under Budget 2026 (check Revenue for the current position on hospitality). Livestock has its own 4.8% rate, and the zero rate covers most food, children’s clothing and exports. Change the rate field from 23% to match each supply.

What does an Irish VAT number look like?

It starts with IE followed by seven digits and one or two letters, for example IE1234567T or IE1234567FA. Your customer in another EU country will validate it on the VIES system before accepting a reverse-charge invoice, and you should do the same with theirs. If you are not registered (the thresholds are 85,000 EUR for goods and 42,500 EUR for services), leave the VAT number blank and do not charge VAT.

How do I invoice a business customer in another EU country?

For most B2B services, and for goods dispatched to a VAT-registered customer elsewhere in the EU, you charge no Irish VAT: set the rate to 0%, show both VAT numbers, and add "Reverse charge" (services) or "Intra-Community supply" (goods) to the notes. The customer accounts for the VAT in their own country. You report these sales on your VIES return. There is a dedicated free EU reverse charge invoice generator with that wording pre-filled.

Is my client data safe?

Yes. Everything you type stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on our servers unless you create an account and save the document yourself. See our privacy policy for details.

What currencies are supported?

USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, INR, PKR, MXN, NZD, ZAR, and SGD, each formatted correctly for its locale.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs in your browser. There is nothing to download or install.

What happens when I create an account?

Your invoice is carried straight into your new Invoice My Clients account. Your invoice arrives ready, PDF generated, so you can send it and get paid online. From there you can edit it, send it, track payment, and get paid online.

Does it remember my business details?

Yes. Your own business details, logo, currency, and payment information are saved on your device (in your browser, never on our servers) so you do not re-enter them next time, and your invoice number auto-increments from the last one you used. Client details, line items, and amounts are never saved. You can clear everything any time with the "Clear saved details" link above the form.

Is there a Spanish version?

Yes. The same invoice generator is available in Spanish, with the document, the labels and the PDF in Spanish, at the "Español" link in the header.
